In this post, I will share some questions about oatmeal and how to cook it, especially recipes for meal-based flavors and toppings.
How Long Does Oatmeal Keep You Be Satisfied?
Oatmeal is said to stay in the stomach long even in small amounts. But my actual impression is, although I cannot eat a lot of oatmeal at once, they don’t stay in the stomach that long.
Oatmeal is quite filling, so you need to eat less at a time. If you make a bowl of porridge with 50g of oatmeal, you will feel quite satisfied for the breakfast.
However, you will get hungry quite fast. I feel that even if I eat oatmeal until I am full, I will be hungry after a few hours.
By the way, in Finland, people eat four or five times a day. Rather than eating like in Japan, it’s more like having a series of light meals. And lunch time is usually at 11:00. Even if you eat oatmeal for breakfast, you might be able to tolerate it if lunch is at 11:00.
What Oatmeal is Best for Rice-Transformation?
In Japan, oatmeal is converted into rice like texture and eaten as a substitute for rice. It is very popular. I understand that rice is so important for Japanese that they can’t stop eating it. However, it includes a lot sugar, so some people who want to lose their weight don’t want to eat rice. I live in Finland, where japanese rice is expensive even if I want to eat it so often, so I’m kind of jealous.
As I found out by comparing them, if the oatmeal contains crushed one, it will be quite sticky when heated in the microwave.

When I tried rice-transformation with the oatmeal containing crushed ones, it was more than sticky, it was chewey like a rice dumpling. This cannot be called rice, but it’s delicious.

In contrast, the large grain oatmeal was relatively less sticky and looked much more like rice. If you want a popping texture, you can microwave and rice-transformation, or if you want to soften the whole thing, microwave the overnight oats.

How to Season Oatmeal?
I am not a big fan of sweet flavored oatmeal. Here are my recommendations for seasoning salty oatmeal, which I have tried in various ways. Please refer to the recipe for examples of combinations.
